How the Preeti keyboard layout is organized

Each unshifted and shifted Latin key is assigned a visible Nepali glyph. The relationship is based on the font's historical layout, not on the sound of the English letter printed on the key.

Uppercase and lowercase input can produce different Nepali forms. Punctuation keys may also contain vowel signs, halants, reph forms or conjunct components, so exact capitalization matters.

How to identify Preeti input

• The document displays Nepali only when the Preeti font is selected.
• Copying the text into a plain editor produces Latin letters and punctuation.
• Changing to a normal Latin font reveals strings that look unreadable in English.
• The file was created by an older Nepali typing or desktop-publishing workflow.

Matras and character order

Legacy fonts often store glyphs in the order needed for visual placement, while Unicode stores characters in a linguistic order. The short-i sign, reph and some compound forms therefore require more than a simple one-character replacement.

A good converter reorders these sequences during conversion. Afterward, review words containing ि, र्, half letters and stacked conjuncts because they expose mapping errors quickly.

A reliable Preeti typing practice

• Keep a verified keyboard chart visible while learning.
• Practice common words before working with official documents.
• Use the correct Preeti font while typing so visual mistakes are obvious.
• Save frequent versions of long documents.
• Convert a small sample to Unicode and review it before processing an entire archive.

Keyboard accuracy checklist

Review full stops, quotation marks, numerals, nasal marks and rare Sanskrit characters separately. These positions are easy to confuse because a normal keyboard labels them as Latin punctuation.

Ask a fluent Nepali reader to proofread high-impact content. A technically successful mapping cannot detect a source typing mistake or confirm that every word is contextually correct.
