Convert a Preeti Word Document to Unicode

Before you convert the Word document

• Create a duplicate of the original DOC or DOCX file.
• Confirm that the Nepali text uses Preeti, not another legacy font.
• Check whether tables, headers, footnotes or text boxes contain separate text.
• Note any intentional English words, email addresses and URLs.
• Work on one representative page before converting the full document.

Copy the Preeti text from Microsoft Word

Open the duplicated document and select a complete paragraph or a manageable section. Copying complete words helps preserve the legacy sequences used for matras and conjuncts.

For documents with multiple columns, tables or text boxes, copy each reading-order section separately. A single Select All operation may combine content in an unexpected order.

Convert the text to Nepali Unicode

Open the News Bihani converter, keep Preeti to Unicode selected, and paste the copied text into the input area. The Unicode result appears in the output area and can be reviewed before copying.

Compare names, dates, numbers and words containing complex conjuncts with the original. If the result is consistently incorrect, confirm the source font before continuing.

Paste Unicode back into Word

Create a clean Word document or replace one reviewed section at a time in the duplicate. Use Paste as Text when legacy formatting carries the Preeti font into the new content.

Apply a Unicode Devanagari font supported by your system, then restore headings, bold text, alignment and paragraph spacing. Keep the source visible beside the converted document during review.

Handle tables, headers and complex layouts

• Convert one table cell at a time when reading order matters.
• Check headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes, captions and text boxes separately.
• Do not expect images or page breaks to be part of copied text.
• Reapply styles only after the Unicode text has been verified.
• Export a PDF proof and inspect every page before distribution.

Final document quality check

Use Word search to look for unexpected Latin sequences that may be leftover Preeti codes. Do not replace all Latin characters automatically because the document may contain legitimate English content.

Run a Nepali language review, verify official names and numbers, and save the final DOCX with a clear Unicode filename. Retain both the original Preeti document and the reviewed Unicode version.
